Advocacy Services

Advocacy is taking action to help people say what they want, secure their rights, represent their interests and obtain services they need.

Advocates and advocacy schemes work in partnership with the people they support and take their side.

Advocacy promotes social inclusion, equality and social justice.

Advocacy Charter

Advocacy Services @ The Care Forum provides advocacy support through seven projects: Complaints Procedure Advocacy, Mental Health Advocacy, IMCA, IMHA, DOLS, Drugs Advocacy Services and Spot Purchase.  We work to enable people who do not feel they are being heard to speak up and express their views and to make their own decisions. We also provide non instructed advocacy for people who are not able to give instructions.

Complaints Procedure Advocacy (CPA)

The project provides free, independent support and assistance to people who want to make a complaint against social and community care services within Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

This project works with people who use mental health services in South Gloucestershire, either as hospital patients or in the community. Advocates can offer support on any issue, such as housing, medication and tribunals.

Independent Mental Health Advocacy Services (IMHA)

The IMHA service provides assistance to qualifying patients to ensure that they are able to access information and gain an understanding of their legal status and their rights when detained under the Mental Health Act. The service will also support qualifying patients to explore options, make better-informed decisions, engage with the development of their care plans and understand the safeguards to which they are entitled.
