Event Detail
Bristol Mental Health Network - March 2010
Date: Wednesday 17th March 2010 - Start time: 10:00 - Event length: 02h 00m
Venue: Dawn James Conference Room, The Vassall Centre, Bristol
The Government’s ‘New Horizons: a Shared Vision for Mental Health’ (the successor ten-year strategy to the National Service Framework) uses the issue of housing policy to illustrate how areas that at first glance seem separate impact on mental health and wellbeing. Or to give a local example – NHS Bristol now has a smoking cessation support programme specifically for mental health service users, as giving up helps with not just physical health but mental health too.
But how big is the potential for non-mental health services to contribute to increasing mental wellbeing? What are the limits? What more could be done? Social prescribers Anna Sansom and Debbie Howitt will be here to talk about their work and its relationship to increased mental wellbeing among their clients. Mark Owen will also be talking about his work using sport and physical activity to help mental health service users, including those with severe mental illness.
The Care Forum’s Mental Health Network is for any voluntary or community group in the Bristol area. Its meetings are open to everyone interested in mental health issues, including statutory sector representatives. There are always lots of opportunities to ask questions, share information and generally discuss issues that concern you. Network reps will be giving updates too, so why not come along and hear the latest! Note that booking is essential for this meeting.
