Advocacy is taking action to help people say what they want, secure their rights, represent their interests and obtain services they need. Advocates and advocacy schemes work in partnership with the people they support and take their side. Advocacy promotes social inclusion, equality and social justice.

The government is increasingly recognising the need for greater advocacy, and the number of services is growing. This joint Bristol-South Gloucestershire network meeting is your chance to find out about the ever growing number of advocacy services available locally and how your service users can benefit from them.

Speakers include:

• Karen Darke, Advocacy Services at The Care Forum
• Marius Jennings, Age Concern Bristol
• Paul Turner, Bristol MIND

Following the main speakers, there will be workshops looking at gaps that still exist in advocacy provision, how they might be filled, and how other issues, such as the advent of personal budgets, will affect this important area of health and social care.

This meeting is open to any voluntary or community group in Bristol or South Gloucestershire. We will provide lunch. There will also be lots of opportunities to ask questions, share information and discuss issues that concern you. Places are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.
