Avon Fire Authority has announced the appointment of Mick Crennell as the permanent Chief Fire Officer of Avon Fire and Rescue Service

CFO Crennell has been the interim Chief Fire Officer since August 2017 but was appointed into the role permanently following a competitive process in which both internal and external applications were invited.

Chair of Avon Fire Authority Councillor Donald Davies said: “We are delighted to be able to confirm the transition of Mick from his interim post to become our permanent CFO. I am grateful for all he has done for us over the last nine months and the stability he brought during a challenging time.

“My thanks also go to Councillor Alan Hale, Chair of the Employment Committee, who led a robust appointment process.”

CFO Crennell said: “I am extremely proud to have been appointed Chief Fire Officer as I’ve very much enjoyed my time since joining AF&RS in August. I am delighted that Avon Fire Authority has placed its trust in me to continue the journey we’ve started.”

Prior to joining AF&RS Mick Crennell was the Deputy Chief Fire Officer at Mid and West Wales (MAWW), a post he had held for two years. He joined MAWW in 2015 from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service where he started his career as a Firefighter in 1992.
