Consultation:South Gloucestershire Council Children, Adults and Health department – help shape the new Market Position Statement for 2017

Monday 20 March, 10am – 1pm

Council Chamber, Civic Centre, High Street, Kingswood, Bristol BS15

South Gloucestershire Council is inviting providers and commissioning partners to take part in a consultation event on the new Market Position Statement for 2017. If you are unable to attend they also welcome comments by email.

This consultation is vitally important for providers as the Care Act 2014 requires local authorities to facilitate and shape a diverse, sustainable and quality market by working with providers to promote the wellbeing of the whole local population, not just those whose care that they currently fund. As part of this the Council needs to produce a new 2017 Market Position Statement which builds upon and develops the 2016 Market Position Statement, to summarise supply and demand and signals business opportunities within the care market in the Council’s area.

This will help the Council and its commissioning partners in health and social care to engage with a wide range of providers, both current and potential, to plan for how service can develop to meet future needs. This will help inform providers to make business choices such as capital investment, service expansion, diversification or workforce development.

The format for the consultation event is:

1) Welcome and introduction

2) Feedback on 2016 Market Position Statement – what was helpful and what could have been more useful

  • Providers
  • Commissioners

3) Themed workshop sessions – your opportunity to tell us what you think – this will be fine-tuned on the day to match the types of organisations represented. Suggested

  • Long term care and Dementia – developing the services we need for the future
  • Maintaining independence – outcomes versus outputs
  • The role of VCSE providers and communities

4) Feedback from workshops

5) Plenary session

6) Final remarks and close

To help the Council prepare for the event, they ask that attendees think about the following questions before the day. If you have time they would like to hear from you by email in advance. If you are unable to attend they would like to hear your answers or any other feedback.

The questions are:

1) What does the new Market Position Statement need to tell you as a care provider?

2) What are the key challenges for your business now and over the next five years?

3) What are the key opportunities you would like to develop within the health and social care markets?

4) How could Council and health commissioners help your business to grow and change in the right direction?

To book your place, submit answers to the questions or contribute further comments on what should be included in the Market Position Statement
