What is this course about?

This course is useful for you if your organisation wants to develop a peer support service, or further develop a current peer support service. We will look at set up, coordination, promotion, goals, qualities of a peer support worker and much more.

The Peer Partnership  is an extension of the successful work achieved by Brigstowe in providing peer support for people newly diagnosed or struggling with long-term physical and mental health conditions.

Sean Hourigan from The Peer Partnership will deliver the session and he has been training peer mentors and managing peer mentoring programs for people with long-term physical and mental health conditions for the past 6 years.

What will you learn?

The session will address:
•    What is Peer Support.
•    Mentors, mentees, formats, locations, goals & outcomes.
•    Qualities of a peer support worker.
•    What needs to be taken into account when developing peer support (Coordination, Recruitment, Promotion, Development)
•    There will also be various group activities, a chance to share experiences, and we will look at some case studies.

Who is the course for?

VCSE organisations interested in setting up a peer support service. Ideally, organisations would have an idea of what program they are considering so they can use it to workshop the idea during the session but this is not essential.
