Healthwatch response: Virgin Care announced as ‘preferred bidder’ for B&NES community services

Healthwatch B&NES is delivered by The Care Forum – a charity which works to empower people and voluntary organisations across the south west. Healthwatch champions the interests and views of local people around health and social care.

We believe that everyone in B&NES deserves the best when it comes to community services. We also believe that a thriving health and social care sector is one which promotes local assets and which makes effective use of a wide variety of providers of all sizes and specialisms.

The Care Forum has worked hard to champion these beliefs by empowering local people to get involved in the ‘your care, your way’ recommissioning process.

.       We have supported local volunteers to introduce a lay perspective into the tendering process.

.       We have hosted Healthwatch information and feedback sessions for local people.

.       We have also promoted the voices of local voluntary sector organisations, many of whom have expressed a strong view that the future of community services in B&NES must recognise and actively promote variety and choice for local people.

This announcement follows two years of engagement with local people and providers, carried out by the your care, your way project team. Healthwatch B&NES commends the extensive programme of work that the team has undertaken, and the commitment they have demonstrated to meaningful consultation.

The Care Forum, and Healthwatch B&NES, is committed to working with local people and the your care, your way team to ensure that the role delivered by Virgin Care results in services that are to the highest possible standard. We would welcome feedback from anyone who would like to discuss this further with us.
