Breaking down barriers with your local community while increasing your activity provision for free

Making Pals is working to change the way care homes are seen by the public. We believe that care homes are a wealth of experience and knowledge, and we want schools, universities, sports clubs – all local groups – to view them as a real asset to the community.

Making Pals will work with 16 care homes across Greater Bristol to get community members and groups visiting their local care homes, as well as planning activities for care homes residents to get out and about into their community. Through doing fun, meaningful activities together, we will help to break down some of the barriers that exist between care homes and the people they share their communities with.

We will work together with care home residents to learn about their passions and interests, and understand what activities they would like to take part in. We will connect care homes with members of the community who share the same interests, and through planning meaningful activities together, help to build long-lasting links between care homes and their local community.

The project is looking to understand the existing connections between care homes and their local communities across the country. If you work in a care home please fill out our survey, where you could win an Alive! activity session for your care home.

Findings from the project will be shared industrywide through our newsletters and social media channels. To sign up for our newsletter or if you are a care home who would like to be part of the project free of charge please get in touch at pals@aliveactivities.org
