Consultation extended: South Gloucestershire Council Over 55s Housing Needs Survey 2018

Please note the closing date for this survey has been extended by 3 weeks to allow for a greater number of paper copies to be returned. The new closing date is Friday, 18th May 2018.

South Gloucestershire is faced with a growing ageing population over the next 5-20 years as life expectancy increases and people from the post-war ‘baby boom’ reach old age. The likelihood of being disabled and receiving care increases with age. The assumption based on these projections is that there will be more people requiring care (from South Gloucestershire Council Market Position Statement).

Local Plan

As part of the development of a new Local Plan it is important to provide robust evidence to identify future demand and to identify a range of housing options for older people. We need to complete further analysis work and engage older residents and their families. The analysis will include:

  1. South Glos wide desk top evidence to inform analysis by reviewing Strategic Housing Market Assessment data, census information and a range of other sources
  2. Public Health information at Authority and ward level
  3. Stock analysis of current older person housing in the District in all tenures
  4. Survey of older residents to gather feedback on current housing, needs and future aspirations.

South Gloucestershire Council would really appreciate your views on the issues raised in the survey: click here to access the survey

Outcomes

The research will deliver refreshed projections of need and demand for older person housing within the South Gloucestershire area with a focus on robust evidence to support provision of ExtraCare housing or other specialist older person housing in the development of the Strategic Development Locations.
