Samaritans Seeking New Volunteers

Samaritans Seeking New Volunteers

Samaritans of Weston-super-Mare and North Somerset urgently need new volunteers.

There are two information events for anyone interested in becoming a listening or support volunteer.  They are on Wed May 25th at 7.00pm and Sat June 4th at 10.00am at the Samaritans Centre, 137A High Street, Weston-super-Mare, N. Somerset, BS23 1HN.

The Samaritan vision is for a society in which fewer people die by suicide, people are able to explore their feelings and are able to acknowledge and respect the feelings of others. Callers do not have to be suicidal to call Samaritans; indeed they aim to talk to people in distress to help them to make positives choices for themselves. The events will explain more about what it means to become a Samaritan volunteer. It’s a rewarding role and here are some quotes from current volunteers:-

“It is the most satisfying voluntary work I have ever done”

“I never knew what a great bunch of people the Samaritans are”

“The realisation that you have helped a caller’s life is life changing”

“I was staggered to find they wanted me”
